Overview

This is the definitive way to experience Tanzania's Southern Circuit three completely different landscapes in one trip. Start with the open savanna of Mikumi, hike into the rainforest of Udzungwa to track primates found nowhere else on Earth, then finish in the wild, predator-rich wilderness of Ruaha. Where most operators only sell these parks individually or skip Udzungwa entirely, this itinerary combines all three the way experienced Southern Circuit travelers actually do it.

Itinerary information

Day 1 - Dar es Salaam to Mikumi

Depart Dar es Salaam to Morogoro using SGR Train, Transfer from Morogoro direct to Mikumi National Park. Afternoon game drive across the Mkata Floodplain, taking in elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and with good fortune lion. Dinner and overnight near / inside the park.

Day 2 - Mikumi Game Drives & Transfer to Udzungwa

Sunrise game drive, including a stop at Mikumi's hippo pools. After lunch, a short drive (approx. 2-3 hours) to the Udzungwa Mountains. Evening at leisure inside the park. Dinner and overnight at Udzungwa Park Accommodations.

Day 3 - Udzungwa: Sanje Waterfall Hike

Full day guided rainforest hike to Sanje Waterfall moderately challenging, passing through dense forest with strong odds of primate sightings along the way, including black-and-white colobus and Sykes' monkeys, and a chance at Udzungwa's two true endemics. Swim in the plunge pools at the top before descending. Dinner and overnight inside the park.

Day 4 - Udzungwa to Ruaha

Early transfer connecting toward Ruaha National Park (routing and transfer method — road or a short connecting flight — confirmed at booking based on group size and schedule). Afternoon game drive on arrival in Ruaha. Dinner and overnight at your safari camp.

Day 5 - Full Day in Ruaha

Sunrise game drive along the Great Ruaha River, with an afternoon drive focused on Ruaha's rarer species — sable, roan, and kudu — plus continued opportunities for lion and wild dog. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 6 - Final Game Drive & Departure

Early morning game drive before departure, with return transfer to Dar es Salaam (by road or flight, per your chosen routing).
