Tanzania Destinations FAQ
When is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?
The long dry season, roughly June to October, is the best time for most safaris: vegetation thins out, animals gather around rivers and waterholes, and game viewing is at its easiest. Tanzania can be visited year-round, though, and the green season brings fewer visitors and lower rates.
Where can I see the Great Migration?
The Great Migration moves through the Serengeti ecosystem all year. River crossings usually happen in the northern Serengeti from around July to September, while the calving season takes place on the southern Serengeti plains around January and February.
Can I combine a safari with Zanzibar?
Yes. Zanzibar is a short flight from the main safari regions, so it is easy to finish a safari with a few days on the beach or exploring Stone Town.
What is the difference between the Northern and Southern Circuit?
The Northern Circuit — Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara — is the classic Tanzania safari route, with excellent wildlife and easy access, but it is busier. The Southern Circuit — Nyerere (Selous), Ruaha and Mikumi — is more remote and quieter, with fewer vehicles and a wilder feel.
